The Green Connectors project evolved from community workshops for individuals, to sustainability engagement with local businesses, and ultimately working with healthcare organisations to embed sustainability into primary care.
The work sparked curiosity about environment's impact on our health, inspiring participants to make a difference in their community, adopt green habits, and drive cultural change toward healthier, more sustainable alternatives.
Green Connectors – What we offered
Green Connectors provided free, hour-long workshops for organisations, teams, and groups, available in person or online. These workshops helped participants to:
- Understand how human health and the environment are connected.
- Discover local initiatives supporting healthy and sustainable communities.
- Form a Green Team or Green Champion for sustainability within their organisation or group.
- Explore ieas for volunteer days and team-building activities that benefit health and the environment.
- Assess and celebrate their team's progress toward sustainability goals.

What We Covered
In a one hour workshop, participants explored:
- The carbon footprint of healthcare and ways to reduce it.
- How sustainable actions can benefit both health and the environment.
- Resources and activities in their area to start making a difference.
- Simple ways to inspire others to join without feeling pressured.
Participants left feeling confident and motivated to champion green, healthy action - whether grassroots in their communities or as sustainability advocates within their organisations.
Evolving Engagement
Through periodic reviews, the workshops evolved into three strands: Community Connectors, Staff/Team Building, External Healthcare Sites.
Engagement diversified to include online training, community days, staff workshops, partnership events, health and climate podcasts and public events.
By late 2024, the main focus shifted to healthcare environments, with sustainability support extended to Somerset Practices and the formation of the Somerset Greener Practice Network - resulting in an 87% increase in sustainability awareness among Frome Medical Practice staff by July 2025.
