We’re very proud to share that Journeys Through Time and Climate — a short film created by learning-disabled artists that asks whether climate change affects us all equally — has been awarded the Social Impact Award from Activists Without Borders.
Offering a perspective too often absent from climate conversations, the film blends playful, vibrant visuals with a poetic honesty. It reflects the everyday barriers faced by people who rely on public transport and social care, while also highlighting the additional vulnerabilities that learning-disabled people can experience as our climate changes.

Commissioned by Green & Healthy Frome and created by OpenStoryTellers — a creative organisation led by people with learning disabilities — the project unfolded over several months. Through storytelling, textiles, animation and film, the OpenStoryTellers artists explored how climate change touches their lives. This journey culminated in their award-winning short film Journeys Through Time and Climate. Watch it here.
Alongside the Social Impact Award, the film has also received an award from the Frome International Climate Film Festival and a nomination for the Together! 2025 Disability Film Festival. It has even attracted the interest of the Mayor of Frome, Cllr Anita Collier, who recently visited the OpenStoryTellers team to hear more about their work revealing, “It has been a fascinating insight into the things you have to observe every day – and the things that can be really scary.” — Cllr Anita Collier, Mayor of Frome, speaking with OpenStoryTellers artists after the premiere.
These achievements show the power of inclusive climate storytelling. We hope you’ll take a moment to watch the film and help share these important voices more widely.
